Energiek Sint-Niklaas

An activity app built for one city: your steps, this month's local challenge, and a leaderboard full of people from your own streets.

  • Step tracking
  • Local challenges
  • Neighbourhood boards

What the app actually does

Steps counted from your pocket

Walking to the bakery counts. The phone's motion sensor does the counting on its own — no watch, no start button, no separate device to charge.

A new city challenge every month

One shared goal for the whole of Sint-Niklaas, from a collective step total to a month of cycling to work. It resets, so a bad month is never the end of it.

Routes mapped around here

The lap around De Ster, the loop through Stadspark, the flat 3 km from the Grote Markt and back — with distance, surface and where the lights are.

Leaderboards you recognise

Join by neighbourhood, by club or by workplace team. The board you see is the people you joined with, not fifty thousand strangers.

Reminders for what's on nearby

Free group walks, evening sessions, club trainings and city sports events land as a nudge the day before, not as a feed you have to scroll.

Short tips, no lectures

Two or three lines a week on moving more, sleeping better and going easy on yourself after a week off. Written like a coach, not a brochure.

Ask for the one that fits you

Not sure which one you are? Describe your group in the form and we'll come back with a plan for it.

How getting started goes

  1. You send the form

Name, email and one line about who you'd be moving with — your street, your club, your class, your colleagues, or nobody in particular.

  2. We talk it through

A short call or a few messages. What you want counted, who should see whose numbers, and when you'd like it to start.

  3. Your challenge is set up

We build the board, set the dates and add the routes you actually use, then send you the access link and a line to forward to everyone else.

  4. You move, the board updates

Steps land by themselves, the leaderboard refreshes through the day, and reminders arrive the evening before anything local is on.

What people say about it

★★★★★
I joined for the street leaderboard and ended up walking the Stadspark loop four evenings a week. Seeing a neighbour two hundred steps ahead does something a national app never did.
Lien
★★★★☆
Set it up for our running club. The private board took one conversation, and the training nights showing up as reminders cut the no-shows noticeably.
Dries
★★★★★
No watch, no fuss. The phone counts, the monthly challenge gives me a reason, and the tips are short enough that I actually read them.
Fatima
★★★★☆
The routes are the part I didn't expect — proper local loops with distances, so I stopped guessing how far the lake lap really is.

Before you ask

Do I need a smartwatch or a fitness band?

No. The phone in your pocket counts your steps on its own. If you already wear a watch you can pair it, but nothing is missing without one.

Will it drain my battery?

Everyday counting uses the phone's built-in motion sensor, which barely touches the battery. GPS only switches on when you start a route yourself, and stops when you finish it.

Who can see my numbers?

Only the boards you joined, under the display name you pick. Nobody is added to a neighbourhood, club or workplace board without choosing it.

Do I have to live in Sint-Niklaas?

The challenges and routes are built around the city, so it makes most sense if you live, work or train here. Nobody checks your address at the door.

I'm starting from almost nothing. Is this for me?

Yes — the monthly challenges are group goals, not personal records, and the easiest listed routes are flat and under three kilometres. You contribute by walking, not by winning.

Tell us who you'd be moving with

Leave your name and email and we'll come back with the next step — residents, clubs, workplaces and schools all through the same form.

  • A person from Sint-Niklaas reads every message.
  • The reply is a next step, not a sales deck.
  • First answer: which challenge setup fits your group.
